Small Groups have one, simple purpose: to bring people together to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. We believe God created us to live in relationship with others and only then can we live the full life He intends for us. Sharing life through community is part of our design, but meaningful relationships aren’t always easy to find. That’s why Small Groups exist – to make these life-changing relationships relevant and accessible to you. They help a big church in a big city feel like home. So no matter where you’re at in your relationship with God or your stage of life, there is a Small Group for you!

“For where two or three gather together as my followers, I (Jesus) am there among them.”
Matthew 18:20

Our hope is to provide every new leader with training and materials to equip you as a leader and make each group a great success. At New Leader Training, you will have the opportunity to learn valuable skills, meet other leaders at Rock City, and discover how simple it is to lead a group. Whether you’ve never led a group before, you’re a seasoned veteran or you just want to find out more about what it looks like to lead, we would love for you to join us.

Common Questions

What happens at a Small Group?

Small Groups are people who meet together on a regular basis, drawn together by common interests, a specific topic or activity, or a particular demographic. In a Small Group you’ll meet people who live near you, are in the same stage of life as you or have similar interests. Whether you are reading through a Bible study together, diving deeper into the weekend messages, serving together or sharing a common interest, our Small Groups are places where community is built and lives are changed.

How often does a Small Group meet?

Groups meet on different days and times throughout the week. Most choose to meet every week, others meet bi-weekly.

Where do Small Groups meet?

Groups meet in homes, restaurants, offices and coffee shops all across our city.

How long does a typical Small Group stay together?

Our Small Groups commit to meeting together for at least one semester. At the end of each semester the group leaders and participants decide what’s next for their group. We have groups that have been meeting together and growing in numbers for years and we also have groups that meet for one semester and then multiply to start new groups.

Is there childcare available?

Not all groups offer childcare, but quite a few do. You can see which groups offer childcare through our Group Search.

What if I don’t like the first group I try?

Small Groups are about people and people are all different. The good news is there are a ton of groups to choose from at Rock City, so if you try one out and it’s not quite the best fit, no worries! Try another one and don’t give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone!
