COVID-19 UPDATE

Rock City Update | June 26, 2020

As the State of Ohio continues to reopen, our leadership team has planned a “PHASED” approach to resuming in-person worship gatherings at all of our locations. At this time, we anticipate that Phase One will begin August 2, 2020 at each location and will include live in-person worship gatherings and open Rock City Kids and Rock City Middle School spaces.

Please take a moment to watch the full update from Pastor Chad.

We have prepared a detailed FAQ that includes the latest details. You can click HERE to access the FAQ.

As we move toward August 2, our team will be working hard to provide more details. In the meantime, you can help us by letting us know how you plan to serve during Phase 1. Click HERE.

Rock City Update | May 28, 2020

Rock City Family,

As you know, in recent days, the President of the United States declared churches “essential.” This declaration was necessary due to governors of certain states placing unfair burdens and restrictions on churches and other houses of worship that were not being applied to non-churches or non-houses of worship. We applaud this declaration and we are encouraged by our president’s stand.

As you may also know, Ohio’s Governor, Mike DeWine, never “officially” closed churches, and has excluded churches from his executive orders, leaving it up to each church to determine how and when to gather or regather. Most churches, like ours, chose to eliminate in-person gatherings and have done so since March. Our Governor has left it up to us to decide when to resume in-person gatherings. However, our Governor has also made it clear that any church or organization that holds in-person gatherings and does not abide by the “strongly suggested guidelines” of the State and/or the CDC are acting “irresponsibly” and not in the best interest of the community. These guidelines include significant social distancing restrictions (keeping people at least 6 feet apart), limits to the number of people who may attend (a very small fraction of each auditorium’s full capacity), with many other significant and binding restrictions and/or guidelines that churches must follow in order to be responsible and good neighbors.

Our intention, as of now, is to continue to offer ONLINE SERVICES ONLY. There are several reasons for this:

1) We want to be responsible and good neighbors to the people of our city. The last thing we want, as a church, is to cause unnecessary worry, anxiety or even danger to our community.

2) We are not a church that turns people away. Who decides who may or may not attend? With restrictions limiting the number of people who may attend each service, we do not believe it is in the best interest to resume in-person gatherings. We are a large church with just three physical buildings at this time, and it is not feasible, even with offering many, many more worship experiences, given the number of people who attend our church and who will want to attend our church when we resume in-person gatherings, to begin offering in-person gatherings at this time.

3) Large gatherings are still the one thing people fear the most, like it or not, and with reason or not. Rather than worrying more about making sure we are following the rules during the multi-phased re-opening of our state, looking over our shoulder and being more concerned with protocols than actually serving people, we are choosing “the long game” over the “the short game.” We are choosing to worship in liberty, once these restrictions are lifted, rather than to limit our services to a mere fraction of what a worship experience is truly meant to offer (community, connection, personal touch, an opportunity to worship freely, age-specific ministry to children, doors that are open to everyone).

4) The church is strong and the Great Commission is winning. Every day we are serving people who are sick and hurting. Our church has been more active and engaged and more generous than ever. We are the hands and feet of Jesus every day, through the Columbus Dream Center, and through the constant and continuous outreach of our church. We are reaching people we may have never reached by offering a worship experience online and on ABC6, and we are serving our city well. People are finding faith and hope in Jesus – through the church. That’s why we believe it is best for us, at this time, to exercise patience and restraint as we continue to reach people for Jesus and serve those who are hurting and without help and hope.

The church has never “closed.” We are now more open than ever! And we are so very proud of the way our church has handled this crisis and led the way through it. And from the very beginning of this crisis, we have committed ourselves to doing what we do with both WISDOM and EXCELLENCE.

We will notify you in the future as to when we will resume in-person gatherings. We’ll also be cheering on our friends who lead and worship in smaller congregations throughout the city as they begin to re-offer in-person gatherings. We are for you! We are cheering you on and praying favor and blessing over every single one of you!

We will continue to reassess this week by week. There’s a reason we’ve not put a specific date to this – because we do believe that this thing will turn – and hopefully very soon – as God continues to work a miracle in our city and beyond.

Until then – let’s keep the course – and together, let’s keep MAKING HEAVEN FULL!

– Pastor Chad

COVID-19 Rock City Weekend Update | March 13, 2020

Rock City Church,

In consideration of yesterday’s request by our state government to limit large gatherings, along with the fact that Rock City draws large numbers of guests from all over each week, Rock City’s leadership has decided not to hold public services this weekend (March 15). Instead, Rock City will broadcast our entire service (including worship) exclusively online.

Services will broadcast on:
Rock City Website
Facebook Live – Rock City Church
YouTube – Rock City Church

At the following times:
Sunday, March 15 at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm
Monday, March 16 at 7pm
Wednesday, March 18 at 7pm

While there will be no services held at our church buildings or mobile locations, we will continue to monitor the situation week by week and hope to resume assembly very soon.

Here are a few additional updates:

Columbus Dream Center – The Columbus Dream Center (the local outreach arm of Rock City Church) will also be modifying programming to help ensure the health of the guests we serve. To-Go meals will replace the dinners and lunches served for the time being. At this time, the mobile health clinic will remain open.

Small Groups – We will be communicating directly with small group leaders to equip them with online tools so that our small groups can continue meeting. Although we are concerned about the physical health of our community we are also focused on emotional and spiritual health. Isolation, fear and loneliness are real issues and it is important that the Rock City community stay connected.

Giving – If you haven’t already done so, now is a great time to set up online giving. We are asking that each of you continue to give financially so that we can continue to serve our city and our world. You can access our online giving platform HERE or TEXT TO GIVE by texting the word Rock City to 77977.

This has been a difficult decision and has involved much prayer and conversation with the Rock City Lead Team, health and government officials. We want to do our part to ensure the health and safety of our community. Please know we are praying for you and we are not afraid. If you haven’t already, click HERE and take a moment to watch Pastor Chad’s message on Fear and the Coronavirus from earlier this week. It’s been viewed nearly 100,000 times and has helped us all put fear in its place.

We commit to keeping you posted on opportunities for us to serve our community during this time and to update you on whether or not we will be gathering next week.

Thank you for being an amazing church.
